Heated Roof Systems
TECHNICAL DATA
- Heated Roof Systems offers ice melt roof heaters in various sizes, and wattage configurations.
- Wattage per square inch, depending on the application (under metal, under asphalt) equals 3 watts per square inch.
- Our typical heater are 10” x 10 feet and are 300 watts.
- A dedicated 20 amp circuit at 80 % load, can use 12 of our heaters, or approximately 120 sf of roof area.
- Additional calculations and circuitry can be designed by our in house electrical engineer.
Controlling Units
presently we recommend a simple timer to turn our system on and off. We also split the circuitry in different zones to control ice damns in areas that require more heat. We are also working with ETI (Environmental Technology Inc) to again offer a simple pad device which would be placed on the roof edge to sense both moisture and temperature.
Energy Use
Our heaters activated by a timer, turn on for approximately two hours a day. An example, for a heat band offering 12” of ice melt on a 100 foot run, would use 2.5 watt kilo hours. 9 cents (Excel Energy) times 2.5 equals 22.5 cents an hour, or $14 per month
